Fulbright Distinguished Chair Award

Each academic year the University of Birmingham hosts a Fulbright Distinguished Chair, the most prestigious Fulbright award. This generous six-month secondment enables a prominent US professor to be based at the University of Birmingham, with access to all the University’s research collections, and will provide an opportunity to undertake research and build links in the UK.

Applications for 2020-21 and 2021-22

Applications for the 2020-21 University of Birmingham-Fulbright Distinguished Chair are now closed.

Applications for the 2021-22 University of Birmingham-Fulbright Distinguished Chair will open in February 2020.  The timeline for 2021-21 applications is as follows:

  • February 2020
    Competition opens,  applications available from the Fulbright website (CIES.org)
  • September 2020
    Application deadline
  • November 2020 – January 2021
    Applications will be evaluated, short-listed candidates invited to interview
  • Mid January 2021
    Telephone interviews will be conducted.
  • March 2021
    Candidates will receive notification of outcome.
